Episode 78:  Get Yourself a New Map

Show Notes and Related Links

A fun episode relating my favorite things: marketing, sales, business and the movie comedy Tommy Boy.

Tommy Boy is one of my ALL TIME favorite movies and if you've read my blogs or we're connected on LinkedIn, you know I like to inject Tommy Boy into my content every once in awhile. It's fun and interesting!

The 5 take aways from this episode:

  1. Don’t assume, ask questions – do your homework. If you don’t know how to get there, ask for directions

  2. Although you have a plan, it becomes limiting over time. So you have three choices: 1) let it decline and eventually out of business, 2) accept it as status quo or plateau or 3) evolve it – ‘buy a new map’ because you’re in the wrong state

  3. If you’re a Richard (a non-sales person), partner with your sales person/sales team – even if they aren’t doing well in sales, you could be the outside perspective that is the turning point for them and possibly saving jobs

  4. Persistence – even through sarcasm persistence will help you get to where you want to go

  5. Even the smarty pants nerdy guy who knows all the product details gets it wrong sometimes, too. And it's OK!

I'd love to hear from you! Do you like this format?

What else would you add?

What movie would you like to challenge me to compare to marketing, sales and or business?

I love movies so I'm up for the challenge if you are!
